Drakes grew up in the business. In 1991, his grandfather, Ray Arvizu, founded Arvizu Advertising & Promotions in Phoenix with a simple mission: help bridge the gap between businesses and the Hispanic community. Ray, a former Chair of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, built an agency known for multicultural marketing, with campaigns across retail, health care, entertainment, telecom, public affairs and restaurants.

Over the years, the family agency’s client list grew to include names like the Arizona Diamondbacks, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet, MasterCard, PetSmart and Banner Health. Growing up around that work, Drakes learned early how the best brands think about their audience, their offer and the numbers behind every campaign.

He also learned that marketing is about community. The Arvizu family has a long record of giving back to Phoenix — college scholarships for Hispanic students, free backpacks for kids, support for youth sports, and service on boards across the city.

And Ray isn’t just part of the history — he’s helping build Maad, bringing more than three decades of agency experience to the table alongside a founder who grew up on today’s tools.

Drakes also saw what most small businesses get instead of big-brand marketing: a monthly PDF, a different vendor for every channel, and no straight answer to the only question that matters — is this working?

Maad was started to close that gap: the same thinking big brands pay for, built for businesses that need every dollar to count, with the results out in the open.
